Trimming the Fat

Besides the noble art of getting things done, there is the noble art of leaving things undone. The wisdom of life consists in the elimination of non-essentials. -Lin Yutang

The concept of non-essentials is something I myself have great difficulty with. Trimming the fat of one's life, whether through the reduction of material consumption or the elimination of misplaced energy is a challenging practice to master, especially in the time in which my generation has been raised. Today I'm going to practice the art of eliminating non-essentials in my physical and spiritual life. I'm going to start by focusing on the present, the moment taking place in front of me. By localizing one's awareness it becomes easier to see where energies are being expended and where they are being misplaced. At the end of the day I'm going to take the time to consider my interactions, and reflect upon what actions where non-essential.
